Today a special treat –some color prints! Part and parcel to the negatives, there are thousands of prints. Most from the 1950’s forward are color. Some are in albums, many are loose. We all have those boxes of loose photos we’re going to get to someday, right? This is a treasure trove of images, some of which have captions on the back! Having found some of the images we’d printed in BW on the contact sheets, I’ve substituted the color images for the BW contact sheet images. And, thanks to information commented, sent, texted and called in, I have updated some of the captions on many of the blog pages. So, look around, most of the pages have had some change or updating. Cheers, Sioban

It was renamed for Timothy Michael Healy, former Governor-General of the Irish Free State, who died in 1931 shortly after the road was improved. The name “Healy Pass” is now also applied to the pass itself, previously called Ballaghscart or Ballyscarta, anglicisations of Irish: Bealach Scairte, which remains its Irish name” – Wikipedia

Hi Siobhan
really excited to see all the pictures . They are wonderful. I love the one of my father and Minnie on the horse. On the picture of the big group at the races the lady with the glasses is breda shaughnessy who is my god mother. Your mother looks so elegant and classy in all the pictures . She must have been the talk of Tinnecarrig when she visited, take care thanks for all your hard work.

Hi Siobhan
The Gowran Races. 1956. Image 128.2_P_C_FFT. of the Big Group at Gorwan races is Breda Shaughnessy, who is indeed Julia Godmother, My Godmother is also in the picture she is the person kneeling, She is Mary Grace my first Cousin, she is a daugher of (Ciss) Margaret Cummins Mammy Sister. She was married to Michael Grace. Who is also in the Picture, he is the man beside daddy and julia Lennon looking out. I think the other person in the photo is Birdy Hannaghan She was a relation of the Byrnes. She is Standing behind B.Byrne.
Mary said to tell you she does not think that Annie Lennon was there because us children, would have been quite small at the time, unless it is written on the photo. As She did not go to the races very often. she thinks it could be Aunt (Ciss) Margaret Grace, Mammy Sister wife of Michael Grace who is in the picture.
Love pictures you are doing a great job. nice to see all the old photos. and learning about family history at the same time.
lots of love

Hi Julie and James,
Please check the caption on the large group shot (Image 128.2_P_C_FFT) and let me know if I’ve got the names straight. I’m not clear if I have Breda and Birdy correct. Once you let me know, I will update the smaller group shot (Image 128.3_P_C_FFT) as one of them is seen there, too.
Thanks again for all your help. Really enjoying learning about the family history, too.
Love,
S

Lovely to see these fab photos of my dad with Bridie and cousins and friends at the races in Gowran . The one of Dad and Bridie taken at the Healy Pass is particularly stricking with such a back drop of scenery which holds a moment in time giving a sneak peak into Dads younger years , this is particularly special to me now that Dad has passed.Miriam Byrne Murphy
