About

Boxes of photosIn the process of cleaning out my parents’ home, I found 1200+ negatives and positives (slides and printed photos). Many of the negatives were taken by my maternal grandfather, Andrew C. Moore in the 1920’s – 1970’s, in both New York and Ireland. Those images are predominantly of Lennons and Moores. The prints and slides start in the late 1800’s and include Doyles’ and FitzGeralds, as well as Lennons and Moores.

With the help of friends, I’ve been organizing these images by decade. The latest effort took four hours on a Saturday, with seven adults and one 12-year-old working at the direction of the three of us who’d been around darkrooms. We printed over 100 contact sheets from my grandfather’s negatives. We estimate there are 800 – 900 images. My brother, Conor and I have only ever seen prints of about two dozen of them. And so many of are wonderful! As Conor said, “They are like looking into some amazing new world.”

Conor and I can identify some individuals in the images, but not all. If you think you know who, where or when —  or really, have any details about any images, please add comments on the blog page. If you have never commented on a blog before, you will need to submit your email and name before you can type anything. This is to prevent spammers from clogging the account with garbage.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention friends who helped the project move forward: Julie helped me get the photos into chronological order; a huge shout out to Pam and Malcolm, Connie, Bob, Russ, my husband, Matt and our daughter, Alana, for powering through all those negatives, yielding those 105 contact sheets. I’m staggered by your generosity.

Last, I would like to thank my brother, Conor, who has been doggedly researching details in images to try to determine locations and dates. He will be sending me current images of some of the locations featured in future posts.

I hope you enjoy this blog. Please share the link with other family members who may be interested. And please contact me with any questions.

Best,

Sioban
